It’s time to clean-up your act guys! I’ve been looking for places to recycle in Dubai for a while now, and it hasn’t been easy. Every community has a different system and only a few areas are covered by Dubai Municipality.
After a couple of hours of research, a few emails and phone calls to companies around the city, I’ve put the below map together. This is still a work in progress, but I feel like we’re getting somewhere!
What’s on the map?
: 11 Smart and Sustainable Oasis Recycling Centre from Dubai Municipality
What can you bring? Cans, Metals; Large e-waste, Mobile phones, Hard disk drives, Electrical lamps, Batteries, Wood, Leather, Textiles & Fabrics, Plastic, Paper, Cardboard, Clear glass, Coloured glass, Rubber, and Other recyclables
: EEG – Emirates Environmental Group Office
What can you bring? Paper, plastic, cans, e-waste, batteries, glass, printer cartridges & toner
: Community Recycling Centres
[WORK IN PROGRESS]
If you would like to add any recycling centre to this map, or went somewhere where the bins were not available anymore – please leave a comment below!
The Recycling Chain in the UAE
The biggest issue in the country remains that quite a few items are collected, however, no one is recycling them. What is the point to sort your PET bottles at home if they’re going to end up in a landfill anyway?
I am currently doing more research to understand what is actually being recycled and transformed in the UAE, or alternatively sold to other countries to be recycled.
